Name: Liz Adams
Hometown: Albuquerque, NM
Favorite Hobby: cooking
Biggest Sporting /Fitness Accomplishment or Moment to Date: ½ Ironman in 1999 and running down and up the Grand Canyon in 1 day in 2009
Next Sporting/ Fitness goal:
Hiking “The Dome “in Yosemite and running a ½ marathon with my husband for his 50th birthday.
When did you start training? Now that’s a loaded question. I started training in Washington, D.C in 1987 – went to the next level in 1993 when I ran my first marathon – started a whole new phase January 2010…..
How many days a week are you training/exercising? 5 days: 2 days on weights, 2 days in Boot Camp and one day on my own – sometimes 6 days if I decide to chase my 15 year-old daughter on a run.
Favorite RetroFIT drill - Anything on the Rail Yard™
Least Favorite RetroFIT drill – anything having to do with stretching – oh yeah, and if the step machine were a drill I’d say that, too.
Training goals this year: Aesthetically, I want to get rid of the “easy carry handle” on my six pack and the layer of padding that’s hiding all the muscle I’ve been building. Fitness-wise I want to be able to run, hike and bike with ease.
Explain your training experience: Gosh, I’ve been through so many phases. Right now I’m in the restructuring phase. I have worked out with Billy for 5 or 6 years and have always given it a strong effort. The catch is that I would pick and choose from Billy’s plan – from training to food to supplements. Beginning in January I decided to focus and do all of what Billy had in store for me. My body has changed more in the last 4 months than since I started training. I think my biggest lesson about food is not that I “can’t” eat things – I just “don’t” eat them because they don’t help me reach my goal. And my biggest lesson about training is that I deserve to focus on me and my body for at least 1 hour a day.
How is the training going? Great!
Words from Coach Billy:
I think she is best described by fellow RF trainee Dan who nicknamed Liz, “The Hammer “. Her commitment, teamwork and work ethic is admired and appreciated by all those she has trained along side at RetroFIT Training Center.
As a example of her commitment she never missed a day of training while she ran a family while simultaneously running a campaign to run for Colorado State Representative.
